Valentines Day is fast approaching, you’ve got the
presents sorted, the table for dinner is booked, your ASOS parcel has arrived
and now it’s the next game: what am I doing to my face? Admittedly, I am all
about a red lip on Valentines Day (very original, Alex) however I’ve put
together a list of different lipsticks that would be perfect to wear for your
Valentines Day plans this weekend. Some of my friends are fans of luxury products;
some are fans of a high street lippy (I’m personally a fan of both) so I’ve compiled
a high street and high-end edit of my favourite lipstick shades to get you
looking sassy and on point this weekend. Team with a classic cat eye flick or brown smokey eye with one of these beautiful products and you're good to go.
The Classic Red
Cause sometimes when it comes to Valentines Day, you can't beat a hollywood red lip...
Rimmel Kate Lasting Lipstick in 001:
Rimmel is by far is one
of my favourite high street cosmetics companies and the Kate Moss collection
has been raved about since it launched back in 2001. Both of my Rimmel lipstick
staples are in this post but I’ve always had an endless love affair with the
shade 001. If you’re looking for that classic plump red pout that Parisians and
Hollywood Starlet’s wear look no further than this perfect shade. The colour
goes on super well after just one coat, my lips don’t ever feel dehydrated and
its under £6.00. I bought MAC Russian Red (although this one has a slightly more blue cool
tone) a while back to try and it didn't even compar to this lipstick
in terms of nourishing qualities and price. If you want to achieve a classic red look this Valentines, then this is definitely one to consider.
Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Colour in Watermelon: This was given to me as a
present from my wonderful girls at university and I absolutely adore the
colour. If you’re looking for a red shade that has more of a bright punch than
a classic red like the Rimmel 001 this is definitely the one for you. As the
name mentions, Watermelon has a slight orangey tint to the shade that overall create
a coral-y red tone. It looks beautiful with a golden tan in summer and adds a
bit more of a dynamic bright red to your average red lippy collection. Team it
with an all black outfit, classic cat eye flick and fluttery lashes to make the
colour really stand out.
The Vamp
Still not over the dark lip hype? Me neither.
MAC Lipstick in Diva: In general, Berry coloured lipsticks either have redder or plum tint and Diva is definitely more on the red side of the berry spectrum. If you’re looking to invest in a berry lipstick but you’re not sure if you could pull off a more purple lip this is a great lipstick to start with- despite being a deep colour you definitely see the red when its worn. All MAC lipsticks in general have great staying power, especially if you blot it two or three times when it is on, and I’ve had lots of compliments on this shade when I’ve worn it. This was definitely the colour I wore throughout the winter and festive months so if you’re after a red berry lip this is definitely worth a go. If you go to a MAC counter and they don’t have Diva available pick up Sin that is very similar in colour and the matching lipliner to perfect your pout is in Burgundy (you’re welcome!)
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 477 Black Cherry: The
Revlon’s Black Cherry lipstick compared to MAC’s Diva is more on the
plum/violet colour side of the berry lips look. I picked up this lipstick
recently in Boots from the Revlon counter as I had a voucher and I think it’s
such great shade that would look incredible all bundled up in thick scarves and
over the knee boots for this ‘it’s not quite spring’ season we’re currently in.
Admittedly, I don’t normally buy makeup from Revlon however this lipstick is
such a good high street dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s Glastonberry. Definitely
worth a try if you want to try a new berry plum shade and don’t want to spend a
fortune.
The Nude/Natural Flush Lip
Because we all know that when in doubt, we always reach for our staple nude...
Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Tulle: This
was one of the first lipsticks I ever got from Bobbi and I still can’t get
enough of this shade. This was the initial colour that Kate Middleton was going
to wear for the royal wedding, until she chose a different Bobbi shade, so hey
if it’s good enough for the future Queen of England it’s most definitely good
enough for me! Bobbi Brown lipsticks are so moisturising on the lips, have
great lasting power plus they create an amazing colour after just one coat.
This shade compared to the Rimmel 008 is slightly pinker with a slight golden
sheen on the lip that gives them a nice natural pink flush. It’s a staple for
me when I don’t want to go overboard on my lip colour and will remain a firm
favourite.
Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 008: As
I’ve already said, I love Rimmel lipsticks and this is another shade from the
Kate Moss collection in 008. Where Bobbi Brown Tulle gives more of a flushed
pink tone on the lips, I find that 008 is more of a pink brown giving it more
of an overall nude shade. The colour itself has a cool undertone compared to the Bobbi Tulle which appears more warm. I wear this colour nearly everyday to work as it
makes my lips look really glossy without being sticky, it goes with every
makeup style I’ve tried plus it comes in at under £6.00. This colour is matte- it
doesn’t have the more sheen sort of affect as Tulle does- but I think that’s
what makes it so wearable. I’ve probably got 3 of these lipsticks in different
handbags and it’s my go-to if I forget to pack a lippy or just want to give my
natural lip colour a bit of a boost.
The Brown Lip
Those 90's Kylie Jenner vibes still arent going anywhere just yet...
*
Yes, I’ve included Lip Liners for just the brown lipstick and not the others however
but you just can’t go all out 90’s style without a trusty line, right?
KIKO Lip Gloss Pencil in 11/Mauve Beige: I
hadn’t really shopped in KIKO before last year but they opened a store in Bath
and now I am completely hooked on their products. I don’t know how they create
such high quality, beautiful cosmetics on such a bargain price- the lipliner
and lip-gloss pencil comes in at under £9 for both. Yes the Lip Gloss Pencil isn’t
technically a lipstick but this is by far one of the best products I’ve picked
up from KIKO. The beautiful warm mauve shade nails that brown lip 90s vibe that
everyone is loving at the moment and team it with the Automatic Precision LipLiner in 504 Mauve and you’ve got another dreamy killer combo. The Lip-Gloss
Pencil doesn’t appear as glossy and gloopy as a regular lip gloss and I find
that layering the precision lip liner underneath really gives me that matte
coverage I love when I wear a brown lip. I’ve got these Lip Gloss Pencils in a
few other colours and I couldn’t recommend them enough in terms of coverage,
quality and price.
MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy: Some
things were born to be paired together like salt and pepper, strawberries and
cream, Beyonce and Jay Z and MAC Whirl and Velvet are a match made
dreamy in heaven. You can’t create a top list of lipsticks without mentioning
the killer combo that was made a phenomenon by Miss Jenner, made MAC a very
pretty penny and every beauty and fashion enthusiast probably owns. Yes MAC lipsticks
aren’t the most hydrating but the colour is fantastic, super pigmented, lasts
super well… and did I already mention the colour? If you’re offered the chance
to get a Velvet Teddy Lipstick and a Whirl Lipliner, it really is worth every
penny, even if it is just to Instagram it.
If
you’re sick of the lovey dovey related content I’m posting recently then all shall be
back to normal next week, I promise! Whatever you’re doing this weekend I hope
you have a wonderful time, whether its with your other half or a night with the
girls get glammed up with one of these lippies and make it the best Valentines
to date. Feel the love and I shall be sending all you readers an air hug from me.
Which lipstick would
you go for? What have you got planned for this weekend?
