Being
an absolute fashion Trojan and enthusiast, December is over so that means a new
season is coming. If some of you aren’t aware fashion is always a season ahead…
AKA what you saw fashion bloggers/insiders talking about shows in Autumn is
aaaaaall about what we’re going to be wearing in Spring and September. As much
as I would love to be wearing head to toe Gucci, Burberry and Chanel
ready-to-wear, my bank balance sure can’t afford it. So, I’ve put together a
little hit list of trends/items that I feel will be hitting the high street
soon, so you can look at the top of your game in Summer.
Lingerie
Clobber
There has always been a love relationship with designers when it comes to underwear as outerwear, and Spring Summer 16 is no exception. The pieces that are normally delegated to the boudoir are about to get their tan on in the sun. I’m not talking full on Fifty Shades Of Grey, its more subtle details and slinky fabrics. With sheer layers and pretty lace trims a chemise for Spring/Summer is a must have. Need some more inspiration? Look at Calvin Klein, Givenchy and Alexander Wang for some more swingy trim ideas.
Colours
Of The Rainbow
The past
few S/S seasons I’ve been somewhat uninspired- I think it’s because I’m over
the whole pastels vibe. So I was so pleased to see the wonderful Technicolor
pieces down the runways for this year. From hot pink to DVF, to the always bold
and fabulously brash colour clashing Kenzo, Summer is going to be a wonderfully
bright place. Bonus points if you can rock head to toe orange like Dion Lee and
Hermes and not look like an EasyJet airhostess.
Strong
Shoulder Game
Just
like the midriff has had its moment, fashion has fallen in love with the
shoulders so its time to let them out in full force. It’s not about a strapless
dress or an off the shoulder style where it’s more obvious, but more of a cut
out style or creating a beautiful neckline that showcases the shoulders in the
best way. They were artfully exposed from Oscar de la Renta, Jason Wu to
Givenchy, and it looked effortless.
Victorian
Ruffles, puffy sleeves, high-neck collars and a lot of flowers- I spy Victorian influences everywhere including Alexander McQueen, J.W Anderson and Valentino. Beautiful ruffles on sleeves and hemlines to THE dress of the season, the Prairie, plunder your inner romantic into the Victorian age.
Paperbag
I’m
not talking putting a paper bag on your head like Shia La Bouffe, but instead
the marvellous fabric creation that nips in your waist. Admittedly they can be
hard to wear, however having a small waist and big hips these are best friends
of mine. Team it with a top that’s tighter on the top or all the shape will be
lost and watch your silhouette transform. See more inspiration from 3.1 Phillip
Lim and and Tibi.
Other
things to keep an eye out for:
Fringing and netting: Not necessarily at the same time (however if you can rock both I salute you!)
Denim: Lightweight denim dresses to oversized shirts, denim days are the best days and they're a spring staple
White shirts: Whether they're oversized or asymmetric, your white shirt has been pimped up
Earrings: Go bold or go home. The bigger and garish the better.
Spanish Heritage: From bold red hues to delicate floral flourishes, add a touch of Spanish culture into your wardrobe for next season.
I hope this helped you to get your head in the game for Spring and Summer! I was thinking of doing a post later on when the high street have released their new collections of my top picks of the season, what are you thoughts? Let me know!
